Hats, hats, hats and washbags

After multiple weeks of traveling and Cashmerette sibling houseguests, sewing commenced once more with a few pressies.

First up, another project in the man repertoire! This time, a washbag for AB’s birthday. It came out a bit bigger than I expected, but overall I was pretty pleased. In particular, I direct you to the pattern matching….

And then, some hats for my little ladies in my life. This is a fun free downloadable pattern from Oliver + S for a reversible bucket hat. They whipped up pretty quickly, and I was pleased to find a great use for fabric that I got at a “FabMo” sale in Palo Alto last week. FabMo is an organization that collects the fabric samples from homeware shops – curtains, sofa fabric etc. – and then gives them away from free, to avoid them going to landfill. I found a couple of stripy canvases and they were perfect for the job.

Here’s the FabMo sample sides of the hats:

And here’s the other side! I used scraps of Kona cotton that I had in my stash. For the middle one, I actually ran out of fabric and used a bit of whale fabric for the sides, but in the end, I think it’s my favourite.

Here’s a view where you can see both sides:

And here’s the first recipient, K, wearing both a homemade hat and a homemade top!  And enjoying a piece of toast.

Did you use a pattern to make the washbag?

Let me know what you think!
