A stripy Named Blair Bat(wing)

As soon as I saw the Named Blair Batwing pattern, I immediately thought of my best friend from childhood, M, who’s a massive fan of cropped batwing tops. As her day job involves a uniform and she doesn’t get much chance to dress for fun, I thought I’d whip her up a quick version as a little surprise present.  I used a very lightweight jersey I bought ages ago from Girl Charlee which proved far too thin for my usual dress making but perfect for a flowy top.
It was a super easy, quick make – three pattern pieces, you set the sleeves in flat, and then just finish all the edges. I fused knit stay tape around all the edges to stabilise it a little, and then used my coverstitch machine to finish all the edges.

This looks *awful* on me (PSA: batwing sleeves and dropped shoulders are most definitely not for the busty) but I have no doubt it will look good on Ms M who is composed in a much sleeker manner.

And lo, it arrived in London on the first day of spring and M was able to immediately wear it for lunch outside. Hurray! And what a stunner she is in it (or anything, to be fair).

Yay for quick and easy makes! What are your instant wins?

Very nice! I’ve had this one in the back of my mind for a while, and have a fabric (also from GC) that’s really thin and drapey. I wasn’t sure if this pattern would look good with such a thin fabric, so thanks to you I know I can go ahead with it!

Yes I think thin drapey fabric is the way to go. Can’t wait to see your version!
