You know what I need?

Another wrap dress! So after hosting a sewalong on the Curvy Sewing Collective all month, I can exclusively report that doing sewalongs is pretty exhausting. But, in addition to being able to help lots of seamstresses join the Cult of The Wrap, I also ended up with my own dress. Win-win, says I!
What I need is another wrap dress | Cashmerette
It’s the usual: Christine Jonson, neckline band, no waist seam. Made with St John watercolour knit from EmmaOneSock

I fear I may bore you dear Cashmerette readers with the never ending stream of wrap dresses, but to be perfectly honest, this is what I wear 90% of the time, so at least you get a real sense of what I look like on a daily basis! And, I’m pretty happy that I focus a lot of my time sewing garments that I will wear constantly.

Do you have a staple outfit, readers? Do you find yourself sewing that outfit most of the time, or are you more adventurous when it comes to your handsewn wardrobe?

Lush fabric! I’ve made 4 or 5 button-down waisted dresses in a row lately and been wearing them to death. Ditto basic knit dresses – fitted top, gathered skirt. It’s getting to the point where I don’t blog them all as I have nothing left to say, ha ha. But personally I love to see people sewing things that they really do wear, so bring on the ‘boring’ dresses.

Isn’t it nice! It’s all slinky and soft. And I love all your button downs and knit dresses! You should totally continue posting them.

  2. this is beautiful! i think you should absolutely make wathever it is you want to wear and share it proudly to the world! i am never bored of reading/seeing true entusiasm

    1. Jenny says:

Thanks! And I’m glad I’m not boring you yet… there may be more wrap dresses to come 😉

  3. Keep on making wrap dresses. They obviously make you happy and work well for your needs. Let’s be honest each dress is unique, so keep on posting and we will keep on reading.

No fear, I will! I just got some *amazing* border print from EmmaOneSock so that’s up next 😉

I’m new to your blog. This looks fabulous on you, I’m now going to have a look back at some of your others.

    1. Jenny says:

Welcome, Sam! There are lots of wrap dresses to be found round these parts…

I’m still working on mine for the wrap-along, but I did buy a knit wrap dress a couple of weeks ago. Usually they hit me too high (big bust and long torso) and the tie ends up being closer to my bust than my waist. The one I found hit at the waist and was super comfortable. The most comfortable thing I own besides pjs. I basically need a dozen more. I wore the dress to work and I felt comfortable and professional in it. I’m making the mock wrap dress but will definitely get a regular wrap dress pattern and crank out a few more.

    1. Jenny says:

That’s awesome that you found one that fit you! You should definitely measure everything to see where it’s hitting so you can copy those proportions when you make your own. I love how comfortable they are…

  6. As soon as I make something that actually fits me that will probably become my staple pattern ha ha

    1. Jenny says:

      You’ll get there!

    2. SJ Kurtz says:

What happens next is you find that one truly great pattern for you and you will make a stack of them. Don’t give up, it’s truly worth the effort.

  7. Margo B says:

It’s never boring to see you look so hawt! Another great dress.

    1. Jenny says:

      Ha ha thanks Margo 🙂

  8. Beautiful! That fabric is absolutely gorgeous and this pattern always looks fabulous on you. You can’t stop making wrap dresses, because then I’d have to rethink my shirtdress habit. Tried-and-true silhouettes forever!

    1. Jenny says:

It was quite the EOS find, and as you know, I am the Queen Of EOS Hunting 😀

  9. Madalynne says:

I could never get sick of hearing about a wrap dress!

I thought my go to sewing pattern would be a skirt or dress, but surprisingly, it’s been my pants!

    1. Jenny says:

I would LOVE to have a pants TNT! Maybe one of these days…

    2. SJ Kurtz says:

It only took me 30 years of trying, but I finally have jeans down. It really helps to start with a pattern you take from a pair of pants you already love the fit of (or can live with for the first pair). You are more likely to be more successful with the construction details if you know ahead of time that what you’re working on is going to fit. After that, it’s just a matter of refining fit and adding in the details you’ve always wanted.

  10. Crab and Bee says:

This fabric is just killer on you!

  11. puu says:

nevr apologize for rocking a wrap dress as well as you do. agree with all who commented particularly on how flattering this fabric is on you.

  12. That fabric is fabulous and you look great in that dress! I like to own clothes that I wear again and again, so that’s what I’m learning to make (although for me that is mainly trousers rather than skirts/dresses and I’m still dragging my feet on that one due to trepidations with fitting issues. Still, I’m getting my head around FBA’s on t-shirts at the moment, which is a start and I’ll have a plethera to choose from to wear with my trousers, when I finally finish a pair).

So your blog is inspiring in that you clearly make fantastic wearable clothes that you look great in and I can imagine you wearing day in day out (rather than something fancy that will sit in the back of the cupboard whilst you wear shop bought clothes on a daily basis). So no boredom from this reader!

  13. Sophie-Lee says:

Love it! I definitely need another wrap dress, and will probably start with the one in Gertie’s new book soon, once I get some fabric. Like others have said, DON’T stop posting things you think are boring – it’s like when I post 5 versions of the same pattern, I think I’m being boring but really I love seeing people make the same pattern over and over again, because obviously it works, and it’s all about the marriage of fabric and pattern.

You’ve also got me hooked on Emma One Sock, which is only slightly a problem 😀

  14. L says:

Beautiful! I hope to get to my wrapped dress this weekend. I have sewn nary a stitch.

  15. One word – fab! You know I’m a massive fan of repeating ones favourites. Having a fabulous uniform makes daily life so less stressful!

  16. I saw that fabric on EOS and although lovely couldn’t see anything from it so your wrapdress is amazing. I definitely sew for my lifestyle, don’t understand any other way of sewing.

Let me know what you think!
