How to save on a sewing machine with Amazon Prime Day

If you haven’t heard, Amazon have their own version of Black Friday every year, called “Prime Day“. It’s actually a day and a half, and it gives pretty big discounts to people who have an Amazon Prime membership. If you’re wondering if Prime membership is worth it for you, here’s a great little calculator. You can also get a 30 day free trial of Prime.

I am a HUGE user of Amazon Prime, but the reason I’m mentioning it today, is because there are some great sewing related offers for Prime Day this year!

The offers roll out during the day, so I’ve highlighted the time (Eastern Standard Time) that they’re going live – until then, the discounts aren’t announced, but they’re usually pretty great. As a caveat: I haven’t used all these machines and tools, so definitely do your research and read the reviews before buying, and double check other sites to compare pricing. Also note that they have a limited number of products in the Prime Day Sale before they go back to regular pricing, so if you want to buy, you need to do it pretty quickly!

Save on sewing machines

Rotary cutting mats

Paragon Cutting Mats. Goes on sale 7.50pm EST July 11 (Currently $29.99)

  • If you use a rotary cutter, then a cutting mat is a must! The mats are often incredibly expensive, so these look like a great deal.

Sewing books

This is a more general offer, but you can get $5 off a $15 book purchase (not including eBooks) when you use the code PRIMEBOOKS17 (expires 11.59pm PT, 12 July)

Here are my top two recommendations:

The Curated Closet. Want to define your style and just be more… stylish? I highly recommend the Curated Closet! You can read my review here.

Fit For Real People. This is my absolute favourite book for fitting, period. The ONLY book that I think all sewists should have on the shelf at all times.

What do you think – will you be scoring any amazing Prime Day deals this year? I’m still pondering an Instant Pot….

The problem with Singer is that the name is actually for sale and not one single brand like in the old says. If you have a batch of sewing machines, you can buy the name Singer and use it to get more money. So you can be lucky and buy one of a good batch, or unlucky and get one of a bad batch. Another problem is maintenance. It is due to this construction virtually impossible to find parts.

    1. Pauline Wright says:

I understand the same about Singer machines. If you want lower end of the scale i.e. not Bernina, Janome is a better brand to go for.

    Instant Pot all the way!

Do you live n Gilbert Az

  3. KS Sews says:

I’ve been sewing on the 7258 for 2+ years. It really is a fantastic intro machine!!

  4. Kimberly Malcolm says:

Yes not a fan of singer. Maintenance was a chore and finding parts is impossible. The online help center is useless. I moved up to a higher end brand and haven’t looked back since. I have accomplished more with an upgrade than with the Singer. Upgrading is highly recommended even though it can be more expensive up front.

  5. Dana Tougas says:

I’ll be checking out the serger today. That’s the one I’ve been eyeing for the past few weeks.

    1. Espy says:

I got the Brother serger for $299 back in 2007. it still works like a charm! I see the price hasn’t changed much over the years.

  6. brendamarksstudio says:

Tahnk you for the head’s up! I may get a serger…

  7. Did the sale already happen for the singer? I see it as $160, thanks for your help.

    1. They are all active for a limited amount of time, so I can’t keep track of when things have sold out or not – you’ll have to have a look about on Amazon.

  8. Joen says:

    Thanks for the heads up!

  9. Laura says:

Thanks for the heads up! Have had my eye on the serger for some time and managed to snatch one up with the prime discount after being put on the wait list!

  10. I learned to sew on my moms singer treadle machine, loved it

Remember that when your machine needs repair, the local shop you didn’t buy it at went out of business because sales drive business, not repairs. Amazon will certainly not repair it.

Let me know what you think!
