Incredible Fitting Workshop for "Curvy" Women - Harrison Shirtdress Pattern

What an incredible weekend! I have always been a "curvy" woman with a very large bust (since Age 16+). Finally, someone to help me fitting a pattern to my bust--but wait! Someone who already has the necessary alternations INCLUDED in the pattern--this is a dream come true! I signed up for the Cashmerette Workshop and didn't have time to do my homework (make a muslin of my pattern). No problem, help in the form of Carrie. Carrie helped me piece my (49) 8-1/2"x11" pages together to make my paper pattern for the Harrison shirt. The store (Gather Here, Cambridge, MA) was most accommodating and cut the muslin and interfacing for me. I spent the first day putting together the pattern and pinning it to the muslin and cutting it out in between Jenny's many clear, detailed demonstrations of "how to fit". Just seeing the FBA in front of my own eyes (even though I'd seen it on her video class) made all the difference. That night, in my room, contemplating a pleasant day among other sewists, I marked and pinned my garment muslin pieces together so I could sew the garment muslin first thing the second day of the workshop and get it fitted. When reviewing the pattern directions that night, I thought Jenny was challenging me by including not one but TWO princess seams in the garment. True to her prediction, the double princess seams made all the difference. She personally fitted my garment muslin to my body not once, but twice! I spent the remainder of the second day transferring the alterations to my flat pattern and listening to Jenny's continued demonstrations and instructions on fitting issues and challenges. Everyone was so welcoming and pleasant (as sewers tend to be). I just can't say enough good things: incredible, inspiring, empowering, etc. Thank you, Jenny Rushmore! Carrie, you are a true gem! Ladies, don't hesitate: buy a Cashmerette pattern and have at it. You won't be sorry.

            Great Hands-On Workshop

Jenny did a lovely job explaining the mechanics of pattern fitting and more importantly, altering any existing pattern to fit a particular body. Watching how some of the participants were able to transform their garment (muslin or real garment) to their own bodies was really fun and interesting. The group was fun and we really bonded by the end of the second day. Great job!
