Ahead of the Curve is the first sewing book to empower curvy and plus size sewists to feel body confident by sewing a wardrobe that fits. Don't change your body to fit your clothes—change your clothes to fit your body!
Ahead of the Curve includes 5 basic garments patterns, which includes a pair of trousers, a t-shirt, a sleeveless top and two dress designs. Jenny takes you through a series of "Fit Clinics"—tutorials and case studies demystifying the fitting process—showing you how to adjust these patterns to master the perfect fit for your body shape. Once you have got to grips with this, you can go on to customize your closet and create an unlimited array of fantastic clothes that celebrate your body. If you're curvy or plus size, trying to find clothes that fit and reflect your personal style can be incredibly difficult and frustrating. Plus size people so often feel excluded and like they can't express their personality through clothes. This book finally changes that.

I hesitated to purchase this book but I am so glad I did! The book is well thought out and the information on how to make adjustments to fit a pattern to my body is clear and easy to follow. The book is a terrific reference and the patterns are great. I've taken many sewing courses and I learned more by reading this book.
I’ve just started altering patterns to better fit my body, and this book was so easy to understand and helpful! An important reference guide that should be part of any hobby sewist’s collection!
I recently purchased "Ahead of the Curve: Learn to Fit and Sew Amazing Clothes for your Curves". The information on fitting for different body types has been great - so many things that I never knew how to adjust for! Between the info in the book and the patterns, this is a great value.
It has been a few months, but I finally tried one of the patterns. I made the Kersoe Tank in Fabrics Store IL020 softened Powder Blue Linen. I love that it has curved lines, not boxy like a lot of other patterns for linen. It drapes well in the lighter weight fabric and doesn't make me feel like I am wearing a pillow case! I did change two things on the pattern. I had to adjust the angle of the darts, and instead of a half lining for the top I made facings for the neck and sleeves. I will certainly be making more of this pattern!
I started sewing garments in my teens-my 30s. Then onto embroidery, cross stitch and quilting. Now at age 71 back to garment sewing. Very different body now and poor body image. I hesitated purchasing Jenny's book because ALL previous sewing I found to be boring and unrelatable. So I have been self taught. My current body is difficult to sew for. Soooo I took a "chance" and purchased Jenny's book.
I have read the book cover to cover. Currently I'm perfecting my Montrose top. I've used the Lowering Dart section, Grading Between Sizes and Upper Back Adjustment sections. I is easy to read, easy to understand . The information and body positivity has made such a wonderful impact on me I cannot say enough about it. Thank you Jenny I'm enjoying your book and patterns immensely. ❤️ 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I had almost given up on sewing clothing for myself because it always fit not quite right. But I read though this book and discovered exactly what my fit issues were and how to fix them. I've made the Honeybourne and the Kersoe. I'm so happy with the fit and I feel so much more confident I can now fix the fit on other patterns not in the book as well.
A must buy for anyone who needs confidence with fitting.
