Ahead of the Curve is the first sewing book to empower curvy and plus size sewists to feel body confident by sewing a wardrobe that fits. Don't change your body to fit your clothes—change your clothes to fit your body!
Ahead of the Curve includes 5 basic garments patterns, which includes a pair of trousers, a t-shirt, a sleeveless top and two dress designs. Jenny takes you through a series of "Fit Clinics"—tutorials and case studies demystifying the fitting process—showing you how to adjust these patterns to master the perfect fit for your body shape. Once you have got to grips with this, you can go on to customize your closet and create an unlimited array of fantastic clothes that celebrate your body. If you're curvy or plus size, trying to find clothes that fit and reflect your personal style can be incredibly difficult and frustrating. Plus size people so often feel excluded and like they can't express their personality through clothes. This book finally changes that.
This book will be mailed from the USA. If you are not based in the USA and would like to order from a local source, please check out this blog post.

I have been sewing for over 50 years. No one ever told me these tricks for fitting! Great book!
Just wanted to send a quick message to say ‘ahead of the curve’ has actually blown my mind!
I’ve only ever really felt truly comfortable in my clothes when I was lighter, and had sort of accepted that while I could grade between sizes competently (and that makes me-made 100x better) that my body was just ‘wrong’ for clothes - rtw or me made.
Since reading the book I’ve identified a number of fitting issues that I have with almost all my clothes, but I’ve never known how to fix them - it was without a doubt the single, biggest ‘lightbulb’ moment in my sewing journey
Thank you so much for helping me to feel good in my body and clothes
If, like me, you've ever struggled to get clothes to fit because of the fluctuations in shop bought sizing, this is your new life saver! If you've ever struggled to decipher those clothes adjustment techniques that seem like trying to decode the enigma machine then stop looking elsewhere and buy this. I can't tell you how much of a game changer it is. Simple to understand with clear explanations and photo guides, it really is genius.
If all that wasn't enough, there are 5 patterns in there to try your new techniques on. Absolute game changer. Don't even hesitate, just buy it!!!
I just couldn’t wait for the pre ordered paper book to arrive from UK to Finland, so I got the e-book as well to read while waiting. So far I have just skimmed it through, read a little from here and there and read a few chapters from the beginning, but this much I can say already: this is the book I wish I had when I started sewing. So detailed, so packed with information! The pictures are great, especially the before-after pics, which really show you the problem and the solution. The text is full of facts and figures, almost in an engineering style (I always say that garment making is engineering with fabric, so this is a good thing!), so I really enjoyed also the warmth and humour of Jenny’s writing style, as it adds a human touch to the fact packed text. Also the sewing bios of the models are a nice touch which makes the book more enjoyable. And of course it is so immensely good to read a sewing book which is filled with body positivity from the beginning to the end. Thank you for that!
So well done, Jenny and the team! You just created a classic! ❤️
