Order direct from Cashmerette to get a copy signed by Jenny!
Ahead of the Curve is the first sewing book to empower curvy and plus size sewists to feel body confident by sewing a wardrobe that fits. Don't change your body to fit your clothes—change your clothes to fit your body!
Ahead of the Curve includes 5 basic garments patterns, which includes a pair of trousers, a t-shirt, a sleeveless top and two dress designs. Jenny takes you through a series of "Fit Clinics"—tutorials and case studies demystifying the fitting process—showing you how to adjust these patterns to master the perfect fit for your body shape. Once you have got to grips with this, you can go on to customize your closet and create an unlimited array of fantastic clothes that celebrate your body. If you're curvy or plus size, trying to find clothes that fit and reflect your personal style can be incredibly difficult and frustrating. Plus size people so often feel excluded and like they can't express their personality through clothes. This book finally changes that.

I had almost given up on sewing clothing for myself because it always fit not quite right. But I read though this book and discovered exactly what my fit issues were and how to fix them. I've made the Honeybourne and the Kersoe. I'm so happy with the fit and I feel so much more confident I can now fix the fit on other patterns not in the book as well.
A must buy for anyone who needs confidence with fitting.
I bought this book for both the patterns and the fit tutorials. I am a size US 18 G cup bodice and US 16 pear pelvis.
The Full Bust Adjustment and Bust apex adjustment for princess seams have been especially helpful to me both with Cashmerette and other patterns.
So far I have made myself 2 Foxhill dresses, 2 Magna pants and a Kersoe top. I have pattern hacked the designs to suit my needs or made them as is. While I’m lucky that the basic block used by Cashmerette is very close to my personal proportions I think the fit clinic is a wonderful resource if your proportions are very different and you need to alter the pattern to fit you.
Ahead of the Curve is both a reference book and a workbook. It offers clearly described and well-illustrated solutions to common fitting problems for a variety of curvy girl shapes. It is a good reference book and I know I will return to it often. Ahead of the Curve really shines as a workbook. Working through each of the patterns allows each of us to have a self-directed fitting workshop. The photographs in the book allow me to compare the result I have and show me the changes I need to make to achieve the fit I want. I am thrilled with this purchase and the lessons I am learning.
I *love* this book! I am a pro sewist in entertainment and this has really sharpened my skills.
I ordered this book a while ago. FINALLY got around to reading it! I found it so inspiring and well-written! Not only do I sew for myself, but other plus-sized women and young girls! The "mystery" of fitting a pattern has been SOLVED!! The FITTING PORTION is truly INVALUABLE!! Thank you for making sewing for myself and others, so much easier!!
