RECOMMENDED FABRIC

The Loftus Bralette is designed to be made from non-stretch fabrics for the main fabric and sheer bra cup lining, although a slight amount of stretch for the main fabric will also work. The lining fabric is visible at the center front insert.

  • Main fabric for cups: non-stretch lace or non-stretch to low-stretch fabrics such as duoplex or lingerie satin. NOTE: If making with lace, 45" (115 cm) wide lace fabric is required for the this pattern due to the width of the pattern pieces. Narrower strips of lace are not suitable.
  • Lining fabric for cups & center insert: non-stretch bra cup lining.
  • Back band & powerbar: mid-weight stretch fabric such as nylon/spandex power mesh with 25–50% stretch in one direction and at least 10% in the opposite direction. For a more supportive bra, use a heavy-weight power mesh.

ELASTICS

  • Band elastic: 2” (5 cm) wide plush elastic (sometimes called waistband elastic).
  • Underarm and neckline elastic: 3⁄8” – ½” (1 – 1.2 cm) wide plush-back elastic (generally comes with a picot/decorative edge).
  • Strap elastic: ¾” (19 mm) wide plush-back strap elastic.

NOTIONS

  • Hook and eye closure: 4 rows x 3 columns (3”/7.6 cm wide)
  • Rings and sliders: two ¾” (19 mm) wide sliders and two ¾” (19 mm) wide rings.
  • Universal or microtex needle, thread.

TOOLS

Tailor’s ham or rolled up towel, standard presser foot, zipper foot, walking foot for sewing machine (optional), press cloth.

Amazing fit and support!

I purchased the pattern and one each of the kits from Porcelynne and Bra Builders. Both kits contained lovely, high-quality fabric and hardware. Having never sewn a bra, or any lingerie, I am SO grateful for the detailed sew-along video. I took my time, followed each step carefully and voila - my first bra ever not only fit perfectly, but also provides an amazing amount of support for a wire-free design. I am beyond excited to sew the next kit, and the only change I will make is to opt for the lower cut v-neck. Thank you SO much Cashmerette, for once again successfully designing for us larger bodies!

My first attempt at sewing lingerie

I have never tried making lingerie so this was all new territory for me. My kit arrived really quickly from Nellie Joan’s and I cut all out yesterday. The instructions are very thorough and I have ended up with a very wearable bralette. The fit is pretty great except for a couple of small wrinkles in the centre piece. I measured 46 full bust and 37 around the band so I made a 36I. . Next time I will cut the lower neckline instead to see if that removes some of the wrinkles in the centre piece. It did take me a bit of time and I needed to unpick a few times due to user error. In a couple of places I found it easier to hand baste rather than pin. I initially tried sewing it with my 1/4” quilting foot but I found that it didn’t give enough visibility when sewing around curves. Things went much quicker when I swapped to an ordinary foot. The bralette is 99% finished as I broke my needle on sewing the last strap to the top. It has been tacked so it is totally wearable while I wait to get another pack of needles for my machine. I tried it on under a tshirt and you wouldn’t know that I wasn’t wearing my normal underwire. I am already planning a second one

A bra (pattern) that fits straight away!

I'm a long-time fan of Cashmerette but this is the first time I've been excited enough to leave a review because this pattern is everything I hoped it would be!
I sewed some wired bras nearly a decade ago but never got the fit quite right, then after double mastectomy and reconstruction I gave up on wires altogether. There aren't many non-wired bra patterns out there and the ones I tried needed lots of tweaking and didn't sit quite right or give enough support, so when I saw this pattern I immediately bought it and printed my size that day!
My first version was made using the boring lingerie fabrics in my stash and by basting two 1-inch pieces of elastic together as I was too impatient to wait for the right supplies, but even this rough version felt so good (and looked good under clothes) that I forgot I was wearing a toile. It feels as supportive as my non-wired M&S bra, and gives a better lift and shape. I made a 40J and have a couple of tweaks to make (due to asymmetry of my breasts) but the initial fit is as good as anything I could buy - the power-bar going into the strap helps everything feel secure.
