Awesome first project, and the dress turned out phenomenally. Now working on making an Appleton to try that style out too. Customer service has been top notch too- happy to be on this journey with this company.
I've made 3 of these in the past 6 weeks. I have made several before as well. I used the pattern I had adjusted about 2 years ago (I should have redone, but was lazy), and I still wear the other ones. I have plenty of fabric stashed for more. I'm thinking one for every holiday. The green one was for Halloween, the maroon one was for Thanksgiving (decided the night before I needed something new to wear), and the snowman one was for a Holiday Craft Fair, where my class was selling the candles they make. I had a Upton planned, but ran out of time. I'm thinking I need one for each Holiday-my students would enjoy that.
I love this dress! It was a quick and easy sew. I made a 12 C/D cup graded to a 14 at the waist and hips. The size calculator said grade back to a 12 at hips but I did not do that. I added the pockets found on the Cashmerette website and lengthened the skirt by 3 inches for a midi length. The fabric was an Art Gallery knit, 95% cotton and 5% spandex, purchased from Children’s Corner, Nashville, Tennessee. The instructions are clear and there’s a sew-along on the Cashmerette website. The dress is extremely comfortable—almost like a nightgown. The V-neckline is flattering and not too low.
I have already ordered fabric from Mood Fabrics for another Turner. This time I’m going with a ponte that does have 50% stretch. This version will have the 3/4 length sleeves. I’ll use a lighter weight fabric for the pockets and lining.
I actually bought this for myself since the nursing expansion only comes in the larger sizes. I discovered I work better with the smaller size range so I freehand duplicated the expansion style and have been quite happily making tons of concord nursing tees and lengthening it to make dresses. My friend was visiting the area and I asked if she was interested in sewing since I had the pattern in her size. It turns out she doesn’t have time but none of her clothes fit properly. I took her measurements, got fabric on my way home and had one sewn for her without staying up late before she left for the airport the next morning! Thank you cashmerette for such easy to grade and well fitting patterns! It’s wonderful to see someone’s expression having a dress fit for the first time!
So far I have made 3 Turner dresses, all lovely. I have another cut out. I made a couple prior to a trip and I wore them for travelling. This dress really is like a secret comfortable nightgown. Amazingly, you look stylish and put together at the same time. As far as construction is concerned, it is so easy to sew. I used my serger for the most part. This is now my go-to knit dress. Go for it!
It was the night before a wedding and I needed a dress to wear. I downloaded the turner dress pattern and printed. Went to my stash and got some fabric, cut and sewed this dress in 1-1/2 hours and it was a perfect fit! I received many compliments at the wedding. I will make several of these dresses, very comfy and really flatters my apple shape, 38 G bust. I used a Liverpool knit fabric.
