Bralette top

Easy and fun sewing. I am pleased with the result.

Super top. Super fast.

I don't have much of a waist and am not confident enough to do the partial tuck on a shirt or t-shirt to create the illusion of a waist. I was so pleased to see the Brattle Top pattern because that twist creates an hourglass and some definition where it's wanted.

I lengthened the bodice by one inch but otherwise sewed it precisely as drafted. This was such a fast make. It's as easy to sew as a t-shirt but much more fun and stylish. The fabric I used is a relatively lightweight jersey (175 GSM) that had just the right amount of drape for the twist. I also really like the neck opening with the deep facing. It lies flat and in spite of my narrow shoulders, my bra straps don't show :)

Next time I will add a bit of length to the back bodice hem because my jersey rolls a bit and a deeper hem will probably lie flatter.

Versatile multi-seasonal

Obviously I love this top. I have hacked it adding different necklines and colour blocking for several looks. I’ve made it in bamboo jersey two-tone as a PJ top, metallic knit with a cowl neck 3/4 sleeves, red stretch ponte and silver knit both with the Tobin Sweater cowl collar and long sleeves. Size 18 graded out to 20 at the hips to accommodate a less stretchy fabric.

Brattle

Took me a few moments to work out grading to a larger hip size with this pattern, but it worked! I like this top, but I think I would make it slightly longer if I made another as the twist is a little higher than ideal for some of my skirts etc that sit a little low on my waist.
But easily followed pattern and a nice top. :-)

i can't wait to make more!

I made this in a semi-sheer linen jersey as a sun coverup, using the Concord's long cuffed sleeves which are mix-and-matchable with this pattern, and it is fantastic. I am going to shorten it to a cropped length and make about half a dozen more of them I think, to use as layering pieces with various dresses. I have a few short-sleeved or sleeveless dresses, and I want to make more (specifically the Avola and Rockwell dresses from this club!! but the Wexford too, and I was going to make a cap-sleeve variant on the Honeybourne from the book)-- and having a few of these as layering options would be fantastic. As drafted, the twist hits just above the waistline of my pants, meaning there's a little bit of skin and my belly button exposed, so I'm not likely to wear it alone. Lengthening it would I think set the twist at an awkward bit of my lower belly, where it protrudes at the same height as my hips dip inward-- just the way I'm shaped. So I'm more likely to make regular Concord tees as sole-layer pieces. But the twist detail is just what I want in a layer to go over a dress, and I want to put it squarely above the dress waistband; I've found the most awkward garment combo is a high-waisted dress with a normal-length tee layered over it, as the skirt sits funny then.
I'm too fidgety to use a cropped cardigan like most people, they always fall off me. I want a garment that's closed, and this is exactly the thing.
Bonus, the boat neck is a different shape than the dress necklines I normally wear, so that's additional sun coverage on my frequently-sunburnt upper chest, without being constricting at my throat (I hate high neck tops).
Pardon the messy background, but you can see, this is me standing with my shoulders a little bit back but not out of the ordinary for my normal posture. I'm five feet seven, size 20 G/H, and these RTW jeans hit just below my natural waist. I have the long sleeves pushed up a bit, and the cuffs hold them super nicely even though linen jersey doesn't have great recovery. Such a comfy, breezy shirt! I took it with me on vacation to Maine and wore it all around and the cuffs held up. Not wild about the neck facing, I had to sort it out every time I put it on, but I might bind the necks of the next versions instead.
