Belmont Leggings & Yoga Pants
Once I found the right size I only needed two simple adjustments to the length. This is a great pattern, that I will no doubt use many, many times!
It is always difficult to know exactly what makes a difference to a good fit. The option of a gusset helps with this. This is the first PDF pattern I have used and thanks to my local friendly print shop, I'll now do this all the time.
I made the leggings with gusset, lengthened the legs, and added pockets. I used a sewing machine, so my threads came out weird, but the actual pattern worked.
I've made several pairs of both versions and they are my most comfortable ever. Easy to sew up quick!
I have knee problems and was planning a cross country car trip so I decided to make compression leggings in hopes of being more comfortable. I chose the Belmont leggings pattern because of my past successful experiences with Cashmerette patterns and the outside seam that would allow for additional customization.
I ordered two different compression fabrics from Mood fabrics, both with close to 20% Lycra content. Of the two, I ended up preferring the nylon over the polyester because it was a little cooler, but they both worked well.
I found a blog post that suggested 20% negative ease and I used that guideline to customize my fit. I started with the size 28 pattern and took measurements at 5 different points on my leg first thing in the morning and used those to customize the pattern. After trying them on the first time, I took in the side seam a little in a couple of places and adjusted the pattern to match.
I made a total of three pairs, all with the elastic waistband. They were a huge success. I was able to drive all day without pain or swelling in my knees or ankles. They were more comfortable because I made the legs as tight as I could but left more ease in He hip area.
The Belmont leggings was the perfect pattern for my custom compression leggings and they made the 5,500 mile trip from Alaska to Georgia so much easier. Thank you for a great pattern!
