If you have bigger boobs, then you know the impossibility of fitting into a denim jacket. To get
something to fit in the bust, it will be HUGE everywhere else. So you wear a denim jacket in a
“boyfriend” style or you don’t wear one, basically.
(Teenage me spent the 1980s in a jealous haze of all my friends who could wear these
jackets with style while I huddled in my giant denim tent.)
Imagine my surprise to find a pattern that was easy to fit to my smaller shoulders, bigger bust,
and post-menopausal rectangular waist. And no need for an FBA!
I’ve tried making a denim jacket before, and I ended up with the same giant fit as I remembered
from high school. Because I’ve made several #cashmerette patterns, I knew there was a good
chance I’d get the fit I wanted. (I graded from a 16G/H bust to a 20W and hip. Technically I
should have graded back down to an 18H hip, but with the adjustment tabs on the bottom band I
knew I’d have more leeway).
This was an enjoyable make from start to finish, using some cotton canvas I bought from IKEA
for a project that didn’t work out plus some scrap black denim I had.
I’ve already got plans for a linen version for the summer. I’m so happy with this make, and if
you’re a busty human who wants a comfortable denim jacket, then I think you will, too!
