Learning how to fit myself with Cashmerette

This was my first Cashmerette pattern - and the first piece of clothing I'd made for myself in several years. I was planning a new skirt for Easter. Being post-menopausal, my shape has changed but I pulled out my tape measure and thought, "My measurements are my measurements. My waist is my waist. Make the size it says to make! It will fit AND be comfortable." I cut out an 18, graded to a 20 at my hips. But I made a mistake. I didn't measure myself while wearing the undergarments I'd be wearing with the skirt. Even though I made a toile, and thought it fit well, when I finished the final and got dressed for Easter it was much too big in the waist! I had noticed in the toile that the hip curve seemed low on me. I thought I just needed to smooth down the transition from the waist to the hip - I'm not as curvy as I once was - I'm more square now. But after Easter (I wore it anyway!) I reassessed. I realized that I needed to pull the skirt higher up on my body. Suddenly the hips fit in the right place, and I didn't need to grade to a 20 in the waist. I could cut a straight 18 because my high waist measures less than my "everyday" waist. I pulled the skirt apart, fixed the waist issue and now have a really lovely garment that will last me a long time. The pattern instructions were well done. I'm looking forward to making this pattern again. The reason I took one star off the rating is because I don't like the way the vent and lining pn the back of the skit was done. The finishing everywhere else was terrific, but I feel like this slit is just a little less "professionally" finished.

Rock Chic Linen

I am not a skirt person so I wanted a statement piece that would complement my other Cashmerette makes from the past year. I chose a metallic foil linen and added a centre front zipper detail for something unexpected. size 20 waist graded down over the hips, I had to reduce the hip shaping a lot and move the pockets over because of this but that wasn’t hard. Pictured with Auburn Blazer, Kimball Bomber, Alton Top and Vernon Shirt.

Elmwood

I wear skirts frequently and was very excited to receive this pattern as part of my club membership. I had a fabric in my stash and a whole outfit in my mind. I was a little intimidated and worried that I would “mess it up” but it came out beautifully. Thank you for another wonderful skirt pattern, that I am sure to many more of.

A must have!

The Elmwood skirt is a must have to any ones wardrobe.
Jenny and her team have done a great job with this woven pattern. I like the various length you can make with pattern.
As a suggestion, if you can make a basic woven bodice to convert this pattern into a basic sheath dress would be awesome.

Elmwood skirt

I am in the middle of making Elmwood skirt. I am making it in stretch denim, and it is really straightforward to make, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. I can't send you a picture yet, I am still finishing it off. And I adapted it a bit. It will probably go with a Webster top 0 I have hade lots of webster things, and variations of them.

First Cashmerette Club pattern and it's a winner!

I joined the Cashmerette Club just so I could get this skirt pattern and I'm thrilled I did! Love, love, love this skirt.
Material used: stretch denim, stretch silk lining
Size cut: 24 (my measurements - waist 43, hips 54, height 5'6", weight 240)
Alterations made: I knew the waist could be a little big, but I didn't want to taper the pattern to a 22, so I snugged up the waist just a bit by making the pleats deeper. Worked beautifully! I Also added 3 inches to hide my knobby knees.
Challenges:
First time installing an invisible zipper - STRONGLY suggest you use the invisible zipper presser foot. Makes the process practically goof proof! If you don't have one for your machine, Coats and Clark have a package of 4 plastic ones to fit any machine for about $4-5.
First time sewing lining - I couldn't have succeeded without the step-by-step video. This provided all the detail needed to get it right the first time. Thank you SOOO much for providing these as part of the club benefits.
First time using a blind hem stitch - why didn't I figure out this one years ago?? So easy to do and makes a huge difference in the final look.
This pattern is going to become a wardrobe staple. I already have the material picked out for my second one.
