This pattern has quickly become my go-to top pattern. It’s a quick and easy sew (especially if you make the turtleneck version and don’t need to sew a neck binding), but it fits beautifully. The instructions are easy to follow, and the split hem and (optional) waist tie are a nice touch that make it feel a little fancier that a t-shirt dress without being fussy. It works with so many types of knit fabrics - a tee shirt in jersey, a long-sleeved tunic in French terry, a cosy turtleneck dress in a thick quilted knit. The Pembroke has become a staple in my wardrobe for all seasons.
Loved the ease of the pattern, but used the Upton pattern to add a square neckline.
I made this dress while pregnant, using the nursing expansion so that I could still wear it after baby came. It was a quick and easy make, directions were clear, and minimal adjustments were needed. I had a tough time with the neckline, but I'm certain it's because I didn't match up markings as I should have, therefore it was my own fault! I should have followed the instructions instead of assuming I just knew what to do. I love this dress and I will definitely make more.
I pulled this together in a few hours and really like the result. Details: I'm 5'6", waist 45, hips 54, high bust 42, C/D cup. The pics are a size 22, with a hip modification to a 20. I have very large upper arms and this fit perfectly! I didn't add the sleeve cuff, because I liked the length without them. I also didn't include the skirt slits. My only criticism of the pattern is the neckline instructions were difficult to figure out. Once I had decoded them, I actually reversed the process and attached the binding to the right side of the dress first, then pressed inward and hand stitched the binding closed to avoid seeing any stitching on the right side. I also shortened the neck binding strip about an inch, so that it wouldn't gape. I made the dress to go with the jacket pictured and love the way the neckline matches up with the jacket!
I made a size 18 G/H cup in a firm ponte. This was a quick sew dress for me, if you have a bold print or an interesting fabric and don’t want a lot of seams to have to pattern match or interrupt a large design its a great design with just a back, front, sleeve and optional belt. I am super happy with my toile dress. It looks great from the front and gives me the waist shape that I like.
I got this pattern as part of a buy 2 get 1 free sale, and I can't believe I overlooked it. It's cute, comfy, and really hits the "nice but not dressy" sweet spot. I got compliments literally in the first *minute* I wore this in public.
I made this in 12CD, grading to 14 at the hip. I used a rayon knit with a lot of vertical drag, so it fits more tightly than designed, but I like it that way. I have large biceps, and the sleeves are very fitted (not loose like the photo), but not binding at all. I was able to predict that from the finished garment measurements and my garment's stretch percentage, but it would have been helpful if that was included in the body measurements as well.
My only mod was to skip the side slits. I sewed them closed to make pressing easier, and decided I didn't need them after all.
I definitely plan to make this again. Next up is a longer-sleeved version in a print for the fall. I could also see versions with a v-neck, in a sweater knit, or as a top with shorter ties.
The only reason I'm not giving it 4 stars is that the neck binding instructions could have been clearer. I had some trouble figuring out how many times to fold and how far to fold in steps 3-5.
