Pattern format

Elevate your look with the Calder Pants & Shorts! These wide-legged woven trousers feature a flat front, elasticated back waistband, faced in-seam pockets, and three length options: mid-calf, full, and shorts. Choose between a dartless apple fit and a darted back pear fit for ideal bum shaping. The Calder is sure to have you loving wearing pants again!

SEWING LEVEL: Advanced beginner.

SIZING: 12 to 32, in Apple and Pear pelvis fit. See Sizing Guide.

RECOMMENDED FABRIC: 

Light- to mid-weight woven fabrics with drape, such as rayon or polyester twill, tencel, linen, or chambray. For pocket lining, you can use main fabric or a lighter weight woven.

Interfacing: Light- to mid-weight fusible interfacing.

NOTIONS: Universal or microtex needle, thread, 0.75 yd (0.7 m) of 2” (5 cm) wide elastic.

Lovely pattern and great fit!

I’ve made 3 pairs of the Calder pants in a cropped length. I was a little unsure of the sizing because my hips are a size 14, but I have a size 18 waist. In the end I just decided to make the straight size 14, figuring that the elastic waistband would work for me. And it did ! The only alteration was to take 1 ½ inches out of the rise. I’m tall, 5’9 , and I really never have to make that adjustment so I was a bit surprised. I love the pocket construction- no gapping at all! Very pleased with my Calder!

Just not for this Apple figure...

Not gonna lie, I'm not gonna make another pair. The pattern directions were simple & quite clear, and the pant went together without a hitch. I liked the elastic insertion process as well.

But, I'm an Apple, & the style of Calder hides my slender legs-making me look wide ALL the way down to the floor. I think this style is best for figures with a very defined waist. What I found most puzzling, because your patterns usually fit so well, was the VERY long rise on the pants-I usually do not have that issue. I used your pattern size calculator recommendations, and the waistband came up to my bra band, while the crotch was about 8"+ down my thigh. Yeah, I could improve the fit, but if Calder still isn't going to enhance my overall look...so, not even gonna try. (At least the super wide leg means I can cut out a different pattern with princess panels to recycle the fabric.)

Calder Pants

As usual, I'm way behind the game.I purchased the pattern because I usually do purchase the ones I like when they are first available. Haven't made them up, although I'm wanting to. Have been chief chauffer and helper since the end of Dec. as she's had major surger for cancer and all the followup treatment. Not sure when I'll get back to sewing, but am looking foward to it, and to trying the Cashmerette patterns.

Just not for me

I made a toile for fit first, shorts length. It was roomy but ok. I made a full length pair next which fit but were long in the crotch. That was expected. The immense fullness in the leg was just too much for me. My legs are my best feature and I’m not sure I can get used to this much width.

Just wonderful

I have searched in vain for decades for a pattern that would allow me to make a simple, elegant and well-fitting pair of trousers. The search is over! I am delighted with my Calder pants and will be making many pairs in many fabrics. The fit is generous so I did have to size down a little (I'd recommend making a muslin) but that was a pleasant surprise. Adjusting the rise was made super easy by the pattern markings and the instructions were great at taking me step by step through the process. I am genuinely thrilled with the trousers I've made and feel empowered to make many more. This is my first Cashmerette make and I can't believe what a difference it makes to have a pattern designed for a body like mine. I used the Apple pelvis shape and it fits and flatters perfectly. It is wonderful to have a designer who works to make patterns for curvy bodies, as opposed to being an afterthought at the top of a range designed for smaller bodies, it really does make all the difference. Thank you Cashmerette!
