Calder Pants & Shorts
I made a quick muslin of the Calder shorts to check fit. They are perfect. Sits smoothly at the natural waist with flattering flow through the hips. They sewed together so quickly. Directions were easy to follow and I can’t wait to make another pair! In the future, I’m looking to adjust the crotch rise as I’m far wider than I am tall.
Absolutely superb pattern, as always from Cashmerette.
Extremely quick and easy to put together and fitting, even on my short just 5ft frame, was a breeze. There are notches in all the pertinent places which all line up beautifully making construction simple and easy.
Because of the way the pattern is drafted the fabric skims all the annoying places on your body you might not be happy with so they hang beautifully and very importantly, comfortably. The pockets are a great size, plenty big enough to securely hold a phone, keys etc. The pockets don't gape, like some, and because they are sewn into the waist band they don't dangle about and pull the garment out of shape.
I made the cropped version in some gorgeous red linen and lined the pockets with scraps of Liberty lawn. Taking out my standard 3 inches of length for my short stature they were the PERFECT length.
I could not be more delighted, I finished them yesterday morning and then wore them for a day out and not once did I have to fidget with them, they were just super comfortable and, even if I say so myself, looked fab and made me feel really confident.
I'm already planning a light pair in a viscose twill for some swishyness (yes that's absolutely a word), plus they will work brilliantly in the winter with tights, boots etc.
An all round absolute winner.
I made these in linen for an outdoor hot weather event and they were very comfortable. Loose and breezy and I was able to sit comfortably without any adjustments! They were very easy to put together, I made them in a day and the way the pockets went together was great. My only issue is the rise. They came up well above my waist. I know they are designed high but it came up much higher than I was expecting. That's something I'll have to adjust next time, but overall they worked well.
I made a toile and didn't make any alterations before busting out a fun summery print for my Calder shorts. (I also lined them for full coverage behind the pale print.) I think the flat front waistband and elasticised back make for a great look and fit. The legs flare out a little, and I like that in the short length.
I’ve made 3 pairs of the Calder pants in a cropped length. I was a little unsure of the sizing because my hips are a size 14, but I have a size 18 waist. In the end I just decided to make the straight size 14, figuring that the elastic waistband would work for me. And it did ! The only alteration was to take 1 ½ inches out of the rise. I’m tall, 5’9 , and I really never have to make that adjustment so I was a bit surprised. I love the pocket construction- no gapping at all! Very pleased with my Calder!
