So far I have made 3 Turner dresses, all lovely. I have another cut out. I made a couple prior to a trip and I wore them for travelling. This dress really is like a secret comfortable nightgown. Amazingly, you look stylish and put together at the same time. As far as construction is concerned, it is so easy to sew. I used my serger for the most part. This is now my go-to knit dress. Go for it!
It was the night before a wedding and I needed a dress to wear. I downloaded the turner dress pattern and printed. Went to my stash and got some fabric, cut and sewed this dress in 1-1/2 hours and it was a perfect fit! I received many compliments at the wedding. I will make several of these dresses, very comfy and really flatters my apple shape, 38 G bust. I used a Liverpool knit fabric.
I'm in love with this pattern. I've always had problems with ready-wear clothes as well as sewing for myself (I couldn't master all the alterations I needed). But this pattern fits me like a glove. :) I used size 14, as the skirt is wide enough I didn't need to grade to 16 as I usually would. After first try I decided for few alterations for this dress - shortening the skirt (I'm only 5' 1"), wide shoulder adjustment, full seat and full bicep - the best part is that once you do it you just use the same pattern all over. I've already made three dresses, one skirt and one lace top just from this one pattern. I'm planning even more as it is so easy to sew. Only tricky part is the under-stitching, I'll need more practice with this. But I'm so happy I finally decided to buy this pattern. Great investment!
Love the high waist and full skirt. The V-Neck is a perfect depth, keeping the girls covered. I made a mistake on my first make. I lined the bodice with matching fabric and sewed the sleeves to the wrong side. Never mind. My understitching was neat and even so I top stitched the other side of the seam and called it a design detail. If you have not used clear elastic before (I had not) I recommend watching a couple of YouTube videos. Once you get the technique, it’s easy! I will make this dress again and again!
This was my first sewing project. I'm not sure if this was something I did wrong. I'm 46" upper bust, 49.5" full bust, 42" waist and 46" hip and am usually an HH cup bra. I followed a size 20g/h bodice graded for the skirt but when I came to make the bodice it literally stopped just below my bust at the bottom of my bra line. No where near my waist! Which has meant it has lots of extra material around my waist and looks as bad or rather worse than a RTW dress (I'm usually 1-2 sizes bigger on top than bottom so there's always extra material around the waist and hip and was the whole driver to wanting to learn to sew). It seems to fit fine across my bust and at my shoulders it just stops so very short of my waist. I noticed there is a cut here line to lengthen the bodice but nothing in the instructions said to consider the length of the bodice or how to measure it. Ive given 4 stars I'm sure this is something i have done wrong or should have known about rather than the pattern. Maybe sewing just isn't for me!
