Grafton Dress, Top & Skirt Mix & Match Pack
Grafton Dress, Top & Skirt Mix & Match Pack 12-32 PDF pattern
made a dress with fitted top, turtle neck and a-line skirt and am quite pleased with the outcome. Its a bit more relaxed than my beloved Rivermont dress (made at least 7 of this pattern), but much faster to sew. Will try other variations soon
I’m a fairly experienced dressmaker but the first attempt was a disaster it was pulling under the arms, has slanted pulls from the bust to the hips, was puddling in the centre of my back and just looked awful, the worst thing I’ve ever made (it was not too small, there was slack on the hips and waist) the waist was also 4 inches above my actual waist. It was so bad I didn’t know what to do so I contacted Cashmerette who were great and said I needed to add an inch into the armscye on the front, back and sleeve pieces, lengthen another 3 inches at the waist and take a tuck out of the pattern in the back to alleviate the puddling.
I made the changes to the pattern and attempted again but I got so wrapped up in the adjustments it slipped past me that dropping the armscye meant the neckline dropped and the neckband either needed to be lengthened by 2 inches (one each side) or I needed to cut the neckline out of the pattern and raise it by an inch to get it back where it was when we started (this is what I did because the neckline was now too low) 3rd attempt was fine but it’s put me off this pattern company because all I’ve ever needed to do in the past was a full bust adjustment which is easy once you get used to it.
I haven’t yet made a full Grafton dress, but I’ve used the skirt and sleeves with the Dewey dress.
I had made the Dewey with the faux wrap skirt in a sequinned jersey, then wanted to wear the dress for a social ballroom and Latin dance. The original skirt was too narrow for ballroom dancing, so I took it off and managed to find enough of the remaining fabric to do the Grafton full circle skirt.
I received so many compliments on both versions of the dress. Looking forward to making a full Grafton soon.
I have been looking for a pattern like this for a long time. Fits fabulously, already made three garments.
I love this pattern so much! I have made a dress and a top. I love the square neckband and bishop sleeves but I also love how many mix and match variations there are. It's not a cheap pattern but totally worth it and great value. It's helped me fall in love with stretch sewing again. Oh and it's really quite an easy quick sew. Best pattern I've ever bought.
