Cedar Dolman Top
First ever time using a pattern to make clothing and I was looking for a top that I can use for work, so I picked one that appeared to be easy.... At first I was overwhelmed by how much work it looked like after I printed it, but then I sat down and read through the instructions and put it all together and was surprised at how easy it actually was! I love this top! I made a few slight changes and will make a few more for the next one that I create, but I LOVE THIS PATTERN! So easy for a beginner.
This pattern was fun and easy to sew - I used a fun rayon print which was the perfect combination of flowy drape without sheerness. I am getting lots of compliments on my new top!
My daughter and I have both made multiple garments from this pattern. We both add two inches to length (personal preference) but otherwise, with each of us using the size calculator, we have had amazing results. It is quick to sew, goes together beautifully and very clear instructions. I could not not give enough praise!
This pattern is quick to cut out and quick to sew. I did find it a snugger fit than the Montrose top, as the Montrose has the darts. I will definitely make it again
I LOVE this top! After using the size calculator, which was a revelation to me!), I was able to whip up this top, in a French terry, view B with the tie front, in under 2 hours! It was so much fun to sew a top that fit so well, is so very comfortable and really fun to wear. I posted a photo and got over 1,000 reactions on Faceb00k! I had it paired with the Gilmore skirt in a Kaffe Fasset quilting print fabric. I am astounded that more than 3 weeks later the photo is still getting reactions & comments!
It was my 3rd Gilmore and 1st Calder. I have since made 2 more Calders to match two other Gilmores, AND it is easy enough to be a first sewing project for my granddaughter. We will start it on Sept 23rd, and she has ADD, but I hope she can concentrate long enough to get the seams sewn. Anyone new to sewing will be thrilled to have a fun top, and seasoned sewers can take a break for this little gem!
