RECOMMENDED FABRIC

The Loftus Bralette is designed to be made from non-stretch fabrics for the main fabric and sheer bra cup lining, although a slight amount of stretch for the main fabric will also work. The lining fabric is visible at the center front insert.

  • Main fabric for cups: non-stretch lace or non-stretch to low-stretch fabrics such as duoplex or lingerie satin. NOTE: If making with lace, 45" (115 cm) wide lace fabric is required for the this pattern due to the width of the pattern pieces. Narrower strips of lace are not suitable.
  • Lining fabric for cups & center insert: non-stretch bra cup lining.
  • Back band & powerbar: mid-weight stretch fabric such as nylon/spandex power mesh with 25–50% stretch in one direction and at least 10% in the opposite direction. For a more supportive bra, use a heavy-weight power mesh.

ELASTICS

  • Band elastic: 2” (5 cm) wide plush elastic (sometimes called waistband elastic).
  • Underarm and neckline elastic: 3⁄8” – ½” (1 – 1.2 cm) wide plush-back elastic (generally comes with a picot/decorative edge).
  • Strap elastic: ¾” (19 mm) wide plush-back strap elastic.

NOTIONS

  • Hook and eye closure: 4 rows x 3 columns (3”/7.6 cm wide)
  • Rings and sliders: two ¾” (19 mm) wide sliders and two ¾” (19 mm) wide rings.
  • Universal or microtex needle, thread.

Tailor’s ham or rolled up towel, standard presser foot, zipper foot, walking foot for sewing machine (optional), press cloth.

Just a suggestion

The option to have patterns in graded sizes is essential especially for plus size women. I could have easily printed one letter size with the grades if it was available as opposed to having to print my size 4x to piece together one that fits. It was so frustrating. Not everyone needs that perhaps. But I did. Other pattern companies offer that option why not yours. I wouldn’t buy again but I have suggested to other plus sized pattern seekers on facebook to give it a go.

Hi! We do have graded sizes on the Loftus - if you need more help finding your sizes, just send us an email at hello@cashmerette.com and we'll be happy to help

So comfy!

I’m new to bra making (this was my first) so I didn’t have the skill and refinement techniques other sewsters have that have made bras before. But how hard can it be? I made the size 36F and although I cut my straps the wrong length and had to do a bit of jiggery pokery to get it right, it’s fantastic. It is super comfortable and very supportive. There is minimal “bounce” when moving around and the Loftus minimises the “droop” that you get with most other non wired bras. The “side boob” is covered up and no bulging anywhere. I’d recommend this for anyone who wants a challenge and wants a super cute bra at the end. The instructions were clear and well written for a non-bra sewing person. It was fiddly in places but all manageable. I bought a kit from Nellie Jones in New Zealand and the materials were beautiful. My sewing teacher, Karina at Studio of Sewing (Auckland) helped guide me and rescue me after I cut a bit wrong (much laughter and eye rolling on both our parts). Because this is so good, I will have to make more. I’d highly recommend this to others who have a bit of sewing experience. 😊

pretty good

It's sometimes hard to know if the issues are with the sewer, the supplies or the pattern.
I think the pattern is pretty good. I need longer straps at the fabric end. The end of the fabric straps sit uncomfortably right on the top of my shoulder and dig in.
I also would like more side boob coverage around front and underarm. a bit of side boob overhang happening.

I bought the kit from bra makers supplies(Canada). I had a few issues with shipping twice they gave me too little power mesh to cut out the pieces and the power mesh didn't seem to me to have much power to it. Regular mesh over the cups and straps very unpleasant, rough against the skin.
Jump rings to small to pass the straps through as made. bunching fabric and increased issues with rough mesh fabric. It's always possible I made an error.

Large elastic around the chest not strong / supportive enough. a bit thicker than usual elastics but not enough to provide the support needed. The cup sized seemed fine not too big- BUT - Even with the straps cutting into my shoulders and the band very tight my boobs drooped over. Not terrible just not attractive -Again never rule out sewing errors made by me.
Hard to review as I think a part of the issues was the quality of supplies. Or my abilities unfortunately I will not wear it - just too uncomfortable.
