Product information

Band sizes 28 to 54 and cup sizes C, D, DD, E, F, G, H, I, and J; includes full bust 31"-65" (79-165 cm) and underbust 28"-55" (72-142 cm).

Note: Cashmerette bra sizing is calculated in a different way to standard Cashmerette garment sizing. Your Cashmerette bra size may also be different from your ready-to-wear bra size. Use the bra size guide (also included in the Loftus pattern instructions) to determine your ideal starting size.

The Loftus Bralette is designed to be made from non-stretch fabrics for the main fabric and sheer bra cup lining, although a slight amount of stretch for the main fabric will also work. The lining fabric is visible at the center front insert.

  • Main fabric for cups: non-stretch lace or non-stretch to low-stretch fabrics such as duoplex or lingerie satin. NOTE: If making with lace, 45" (115 cm) wide lace fabric is required for the this pattern due to the width of the pattern pieces. Narrower strips of lace are not suitable.
  • Lining fabric for cups & center insert: non-stretch bra cup lining.
  • Back band & powerbar: mid-weight stretch fabric such as nylon/spandex power mesh with 25–50% stretch in one direction and at least 10% in the opposite direction. For a more supportive bra, use a heavy-weight power mesh.

  • Band elastic: 2” (5 cm) wide plush elastic (sometimes called waistband elastic).
  • Underarm and neckline elastic: 3⁄8” – ½” (1 – 1.2 cm) wide plush-back elastic (generally comes with a picot/decorative edge).
  • Strap elastic: ¾” (19 mm) wide plush-back strap elastic.

  • Hook and eye closure: 4 rows x 3 columns (3”/7.6 cm wide)
  • Rings and sliders: two ¾” (19 mm) wide sliders and two ¾” (19 mm) wide rings.
  • Universal or microtex needle, thread.

Tailor’s ham or rolled up towel, standard presser foot, zipper foot, walking foot for sewing machine (optional), press cloth.

I've never managed to make a bra before but I've been a Club member for over a year and have improved my sewing skills enough in that time that I tackled this pattern and was met with success! Even my trial version turned out wearable-- minor fit issues, but when I put it on I didn't want to take it back off again because it already fit better than the RTW bra I'd been wearing while I sewed. Each successive draft has been like that, immediately taking its place as my best-fitting bra as soon as I tried it on. It takes patience and very conscientious attention to seam allowances, and sometimes I had to rewatch the (excellent, no-frills, nothing-skipped) sewalong because I could not parse the directions, but between the two of them I've managed to make several bras, each better than the last. I will be making many more, and am looking forward to the variations of this pattern that will surely be released.

A good pattern, just not for me

There is one unfinished edge of sheer cup lining along the neckline on this pattern. I have a surgical scar that it runs right across, and unfortunately the unfinished edge is pretty itchy at times. That’s very much a me problem, but for those of you with an old chemo port scar or something similar, it’s something to be aware of.

That said, I do wear the bra I made! The instructions were clear, and fitting went pretty well. But I doubt I’ll make another because of the scar problem. It’s very comfy when my skin isn’t too sensitive, but I’ve found myself reaching for the Willowdale instead.

Loftus Bralette

What a great pattern! It's easy to sew and needed very few adjustments to feel pretty perfect. The band is so comfortable - no rolling or squeezing - and the cups have the extra volume I need without the extra width like most bra patterns for larger cups. My first try is wearable! Such a relief!
