The perfect top for layering

As someone who loves jackets and cardigans, plus lives in a mild and rainy climate, this top is perfect for layering year round! And it comes in handy for those two hot weeks in summer as a standalone top, too. Bonus: once you get a perfect fit on this top, you can use it as a sort of sloper to test the fit of other other patterns before you sew them. Another surprise: I love the cropped version! If I hadn't been short on fabric for the second one, I would have never discovered this. So even if you're a fairly conservative dresser like me, you might be surprised at how much you like the cropped version. I've already made five of these, and I anticipate making many more. This is definitely a TNT for me!

Thorndike

I was slightly dubious about this as it’s shorter and boxier than I normally like but I had just enough fabric left after making a skirt and thought I might as well give it a try. I was very glad I did. It’s much more flattering on me than I was expecting and in a black broderie angliase went with many of my wardrobe items and was cool. Easy make too

Perfect shell/tank pattern to dress up or down

I love the shape and details of this tank. Sometimes the simplest patterns are the best to show off a special piece of fabric. Likewise, this shape works great under jackets so that I expect I will be wearing Thorndikes nearly year round.

Thorndyke Tank

Excellent pattern for a basic sleeveless garment to wear alone or under other clothing. Easy to sew and beautiful fit without any alterations. I especially liked the dart formation. I expect to make a few more out of some raw silk I've had stashed for about fifty(!) years.

Easy to make and fantastic fit. I usually stay away from woven fabrics and anything with darts. This was super easy!

Good instructions and beautiful toop

I like the shape of this top. It is comfortable and stylish without feeling too boxy and shapeless.
