I made this coat in a knit fabric and it worked perfectly. It is just so comfortable and lovely to wear.
I loved this trench coat! The instructions were very clear and easy to follow and the fit is great. I made the muslin out of denim and ended up with an unlined jacket as well because the fit was almost right on. I am 5'10" and did have to lengthen the sleeves a bit but everything else fit perfectly.
I finished my trench few days ago. The pattern fits very well, I have cut a 22 size but next time I will do a 20 .
I would like to make another one, but the short version.
Unfortunately I made a mistake: I cut the wrong side of the lining kick pleat.... but I fixed it.
And I had some problems with belt loops, maybe due because I didn’t understand very well ( I am italian).
Anyway this is the best pattern I have ever bought!!!
From the size calculator it said I needed a 14 G/H bust and 24 waist. After 2 test garments I did a 20/24 to be able to move in it. The waist is still a bit big. The next one I would probably do a 20 EF/ 22, if there wasn’t 99 pages to print and put together! They did give me some help on the site but it wasn’t particularly useful. And I’ve printed the pattern twice already as the pattern is laid out single layer and I thought I didn’t have enough fabric at 3.5m. Size 24 said 4.7m. And I couldn’t get any more purple. Turned out 3m was enough in the purple but I used my extra black fabric for a smart look anyway. It was a mission to make, took a total of a month; 2 weeks sorting pattern and toilles, 2 weeks sewing a bit every day. The instructions were good except I got confused at the centre front hem lining. It also could do with reinforcement on the back kick pleat lining as it’s starting to rip. All in all, beautiful coat I’m proud of. I have never made a wool coat before and this is very smart. I even made a beret and a flat cap to go with it. A hood option would be nice. Would I do it again? Maybe. Maybe not. Need to use up that extra expensive fabric.
The pattern and instructions were very clear and as this coat is the most complicated piece of clothing I have ever attempted, I was very pleased. However, even though I had thought my measurements were accurate, it has turned out a little large. Nonetheless I would recommend this pattern.
